Do you feel like Austin is bursting at the seams? →

austinstatesman:

It may be.

New census data show the Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos region ranked as the nation’s second fastest growing metro area between April 2010 and July 2011.

“It’s still about Austin,” Ryan Robinson, the city’s demographer, said about the data. “It’s about the fact that when people move here, they’re wanting to move into the heart of the metropolitan region, and the reason they want to do that is I think the vibrancy, the quality of life, the overall culture.”

Austin SWAT Team performing a building by building search of the UT campus. It should be noted that SWAT teams were created after the Charles Whitman shooting in 1966.
What does today’s shooting mean for gun laws, guns on campus, and the 2nd Amendment?

what an unsettling photo.

Austin City Council Axes Trail of Lights →

keepinaustinweird:

You know, normally I’d be upset about things such as this, but honestly, in this town, just driving through the neighborhoods is enough of a light show during the holiday season. I did the Trail of Lights one year and found it to be far too short to really be anything enjoyable. Yeah, it was pretty, but if they need the money for everyday park maintenance, I’d rather take that than a holiday light show anyday.

wait what? fucknoaustintx! :(

i remember when the trail of lights was massive and so magical as a kid.
but yeah, i guess when it comes down to it, the money is better spent elsewhere. hopefully they’ll keep the big tree, at least, for spinning under?
